When ChatGPT was first launched, we felt that WhatsApp was a natural and intuitive interface for an LLM chatbot. So we set up a WhatsApp number on which you can chat with it.
To date, we've had 97,764 users from 143 countries try it out. They've sent 14.3 million messages. It went viral among university students in Kenya, where we have over 40,000 users.
One of the things we experimented with is the ChatGPT feature called "function calling", which allows you to integrate external functionality, like drawing pictures.
Example
Here's an example of how that works.
Behind the scenes:
- We give ChatGPT a function that can turn a description into an image (using the DALL-E3 API)
- ChatGPT reads your prompt and decides whether calling that function before answering is a good idea
- ChatGPT calls the function and gets an image
- We send it to you as a WhatsApp attachment
Using these functions you can take care of all sorts of real world tasks, like writing emails, scheduling calendar events and sending invoices. Got any ideas you want to try out?
Generate yourself an image
To generate your own image: Just WhatsApp +44 7451 282218 or click here.
If you want it to draw pictures for you, make sure you say something along the lines of "generate a dalle3 image".
Word of warning: since we've had a lot of usage, you'll hit a paywall after a few messages.
